The Africanus Permit (Trachinotus africanus) is a species shrouded in mystery, Southern Oman is one of the only places on earth where these powerful, wary fish can be targeted consistently.
Sight-fishing for tailing Africanus Permit is among the most technical and rewarding experiences in saltwater fly fishing. Their shape resembles their more famous cousin (Indo-Pacific), but they’re even more elusive, more selective, and arguably tougher to fool.
Found tailing in skinny water, amongst mussel beds and rocky outcrops, these fish will test your patience and gear.
Most active in the early morning, these fish are often found with other species such as bream and other reef fish.
